Writers often divide themselves up into plotters and pantsers: the former prefers to plan their stories in advance as if they were plotting a garden; the latter writes “from the seat of their pants,” as the saying goes.

Which are you? Take this quiz and let us know!

What’s your idea of the perfect day?

A. A cup of coffee at my favorite cafe, followed by a trip to the bookstore, then lunch with a friend, then two hours of writing, then a quick run, then…

B. No plans. I like to see what happens.

Do you peek at the ends of books before you’re finished reading them?

A. Yes! I can’t resist knowing what’s going to happen.

B. No way! I hate spoilers.

Do you lay out tomorrow’s clothes before you go to bed?

A. Of course! My mornings are busy enough without trying to figure out what to wear.

B. Of course not! What if I wake up the next morning and feel like wearing something different?

What’s the worst part about getting stuck in traffic?

A. It throws off the rest of my day!

B. It’s a waste of time! (Also, it’s boring.)

You’ve had a stressful day and need to unwind. Do you rewatch a favorite movie or watch something you’ve never seen before?

A. Favorite movie. With my favorite flavor of ice cream. Under my favorite blanket.

B. What has Netflix recommended for me today?

How do you feel about the expression “go with the flow?”

A. I prefer to create my own flow using the Csikszentmihalyi method.

B. I thought about getting it tattooed on my body, but then I decided to put a sticky note on my laptop instead.

Did you read through all of the questions and answers before you took this quiz?

A. I couldn’t help it! Plus I kinda wanted to know which answers I should pick.

B. Nope. But I figured out by the second question that all the As were plotters and all the Bs were pantsers.

Share your results below—and let us know whether you agree with the quiz!
