I’m reading and paying attention—I do think there are two big social issues in this story: first, that people of color are disproportionally targeted for minor offenses, which I thought I referenced twice in the post, but my language probably wasn’t clear enough.

Second, that once the author found herself “in the system,” she had a very difficult time proving her innocence despite her privileges.

I’m sorry that it read like I downplayed the first issue, and I’ll pay closer attention in future posts.
