So I know this is a tangent, and I’m hardly pro-Uber but “entirely responsible for every aspect of the experience” discounts the work required to build the app and the entire back end infrastructure of what’s essentially a self-administered dispatching system. That’s not trivial work and getting it up and running in almost every major area across the country is a major reason why it’s so successful. The ability to hail a car in one app, regardless of whether you’re in LA or Seattle or NYC is a pretty huge.
